More than 2,000 people gathered in San Diego to mourn three men killed while stopping an attack on the city's largest mosque.
Men, women, and police officers attended the Islamic funeral prayer, honoring the heroes who delayed the attackers and saved children.
The bodies of Amin Abdullah, 51, Mansour Kaziha, 78, and Nadir Awad, 57, lay under a white canopy.
Imam Taha Hassane said: "Today is a message to everyone. Our community is standing strong."
The FBI is investigating the attack as a suspected hate crime.
Mourner Ruba Abu Jamah called for an end to hatred, saying: "Hate takes us backwards."
Khaled Abdullah, son of the security guard, said: "My father died a hero."
