The United States is ramping up efforts to prevent Ebola from entering the country following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has caused 220 deaths and 900 cases.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, "We cannot and will not allow any cases of Ebola to enter the United States," during a cabinet meeting.
The U.S. is in talks with Kenya to open a quarantine facility for exposed U.S. citizens. It has also implemented travel bans and airport screenings.
Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, argued that specialized U.S. or German facilities are better suited than a new facility in Kenya.
The outbreak of the rare Bundibugyo strain has been declared the third-largest Ebola outbreak on record.
