Two U.S. citizens have been fined in pan" class="internal-tag-link">Japan for illegally entering the enclosure of a famous Japanese macaque named "Pan".
According to Oxu.Az citing the Yomiuri Shimbun, the Chiba District Public Prosecutors Office fined each American 300,000 yen (about $1,900).
The reason was damage to the zoo's operations caused by unauthorized entry into the enclosure.
The incident occurred in May at a zoo in Ichikawa City. Those detained were a 24-year-old student and a 27-year-old company executive.
Investigations revealed that the student entered wearing a mascot costume and a mask, while his companion recorded the act on video.
Pan the Japanese macaque gained worldwide fame after videos of him went viral. Abandoned by his mother, he was given an orangutan toy as a surrogate.
