Austria has declared three Russian diplomats persona non grata and expelled them from the country on suspicion of espionage. The decision was officially announced by the Austrian government.

According to reports from Reuters, Austrian authorities discovered antennas on the roofs of diplomatic missions, which were allegedly used for intelligence gathering. Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger emphasized that exploiting diplomatic immunity for espionage is unacceptable.

The identities of the expelled diplomats remain undisclosed. This brings the total number of Russian diplomats expelled from Austria since 2020 to 14.

Earlier, in September 2025, Austria had already expelled one Russian diplomat under similar espionage suspicions.

The move underscores Austria's commitment to upholding international law and protecting its national security from foreign intelligence activities.
