Iran has begun negotiations with Japanese companies over oil sales.
According to Reuters, citing sources, potential buyers seek longer-term exemptions from US sanctions and security guarantees for shipping in the Persian Gulf.
In June, the US eased decades-long sanctions, allowing Iran to sell oil. Washington aims for a final peace deal in exchange for Tehran's commitments to inspections at nuclear sites and free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Currently, the US Treasury's decision permits the sale of Iranian crude oil, petrochemicals, and petroleum products until August 21.
