Canada is constructing a new pipeline to transport up to 1 million barrels of crude oil per day to Asia, aiming to reduce dependence on the US market.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced plans to turn Canada into an energy superpower. The pipeline, over 1,000 km long, will extend from Alberta to the west coast of British Columbia by September 2027.
Carney called the project a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." The route will follow an existing mountain corridor to the Pacific Ocean.
Over the next decade, Canada will triple its liquefied natural gas output and invest 10 billion Canadian dollars in modernizing the Port of Vancouver.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith plans to double oil production with pipeline completion by 2035. Currently, the US buys 60% of Canada's oil exports.
