Venezuela earthquake kills all officials in one state

Venezuela earthquake death toll reaches 2,595; all officials in La Guaira state killed. President Delcy Rodriguez provides updates.

The death toll from the earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 2,595, with over 12,000 injured.

President Delcy Rodriguez announced at a press conference that the entire healthcare system has been mobilized to receive 12,400 wounded.

She stated that 189 buildings collapsed. In the state of La Guaira, nearly all government officials were killed.

Rodriguez said: "In La Guaira, the heads of many institutions and almost all officials have lost their lives."

Over 855 buildings were damaged, of which 127 were completely destroyed. More than 800 aftershocks were recorded.

On July 3, the government will announce economic measures for the country's recovery. Rescue operations continue, with 6,462 people rescued so far.
