The European Union's highest court has rejected Google's appeal against a €4.125 billion antitrust fine. The decision upholds one of the largest investigations by the European Commission against the tech giant.
The court confirmed that Google abused its dominant position by restricting smartphone manufacturers and mobile operators using its Android operating system. This aimed to maintain the market dominance of Google Search and Chrome browser.
Initially set at €4.34 billion in 2018, the fine was reduced to €4.125 billion in 2022 by the EU General Court. Now the top court has upheld that decision.
Google expressed disagreement, stating the ruling ignores significant investments in Android as an open, adaptable, and free operating system. The company also noted it has met all requirements since the 2018 decision.
