The Indian government has objected to Meta-owned WhatsApp's new username feature.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology ordered the company to halt its rollout in the country, citing cybersecurity risks.
Officials warn that usernames could increase phishing, digital arrest scams, and identity theft. The ministry has given WhatsApp three business days to respond.
WhatsApp stated the feature hasn't been launched yet and that protective measures are already in place.
