According to the WHO, the Ebola virus is rapidly spreading in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. There are 32 confirmed cases, over 500 suspected cases, and 130 deaths.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated at the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva that 30 infections have been confirmed in Congo's Ituri province. Uganda reported two confirmed cases in Kampala, one of which resulted in death.
DRC government spokesman Patrick Muyaya said 435 suspected cases have been identified in North Kivu and Ituri provinces. He urged the public to follow protective measures.
The "Bundibugyo" strain of Ebola was detected on May 14, and the WHO declared the outbreak a global health emergency on May 17.
