European trust in the United States has fallen to its lowest level ever.
According to Oxu.Az, citing The Guardian, a survey by the European Council on Foreign Relations in 15 European countries shows that only one in ten respondents (11%) see the US as an ally. Last year, this figure was 16%, and in November 2024, it was 22%. Currently, most Europeans doubt that the US would come to their aid in case of an attack. However, a large majority of citizens in surveyed countries are confident that neighboring states would help them during a crisis.
Researchers believe that Washington's tough policies in the Middle East, threats regarding Greenland, promises to withdraw troops from European bases, and skepticism about NATO's future have strengthened pragmatism in Europe. Europeans increasingly support increasing defense spending and reducing dependence on Washington.
