The MV Hondius passenger ship, which experienced a hantavirus outbreak on board, has docked at the Rotterdam port.
According to Oxu.Az, this was reported by "nu.nl."
The vessel anchored at pier 7 at 10:30 local time. The crew disembarked under medical supervision and will join remaining passengers in quarantine at special living modules within the port area.
Law enforcement and special services have closed off the area and all access roads. The modules housing passengers and crew are under full control. Some crew members remain on board for disinfection.
Cleaning and disinfection will start tomorrow and conclude by Friday, carried out by a specialized cleaning company.
The MV Hondius departed from Ushuaia, Argentina in early April. There were about 150 people from 23 countries on board. During the voyage, several individuals showed symptoms of acute respiratory disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced in early May that a hantavirus infection of the Andes strain was spreading on the ship. On May 10, the ship docked off Tenerife, where passengers and some crew were evacuated and quarantined via special flights.
According to WHO, 9 people were suspected of hantavirus infection. Seven cases were confirmed, and three patients died. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated there is no risk of a large-scale epidemic at this stage, but the situation could change.
