According to the China Zoo Association, Bamo, considered the longest-lived male Asian elephant, has died at Shanghai Zoo. He was 65 years old.
Oxu.Az reports that this information was published by "China Daily".
Born in Myanmar in 1961, Bamo was brought to China in 1967 and settled in Shanghai in 1973. He became a symbol of the zoo's elephant section, winning the affection of several generations of city residents.
Keepers remember him as a highly intelligent and cheerful animal who loved playing with water and would exchange broken branches for his favorite foods, corn and watermelon.
As he aged, Bamo developed a curvature in his spine and his teeth decayed. To prolong his life, the zoo administration implemented a special modern care system for elderly elephants. His food was cut into small pieces and given more frequently in smaller portions. Special training walls were installed in the enclosures for safe medical examinations, water pools were renovated, and sand mounds and soft resting areas were created.
