Azerbaijan continues to increase its potential through both the acquisition of modern UAVs and the development of local production.
In recent years, Azerbaijan has adopted several new unmanned systems, including locally produced drones like "Itigovan".
The leading defense manufacturer "Azersilah" actively participates in drone development. Azerbaijan operates various Turkish and Israeli systems, including Bayraktar TB2 and Akıncı drones.
The Shusha Declaration signed with Turkey in 2021 strengthened bilateral cooperation in defense technologies. Joint production possibilities are being explored.
A separate unmanned systems command has been established within the Armed Forces. The defense budget increased from $2.24 billion in 2020 to $5.1 billion in 2026.
The Second Karabakh War in 2020 demonstrated the high effectiveness of combat drones. Azerbaijan stands out as a regional leader in this field.
