The Armenian government has begun independently restoring railway sections leading to the borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Oxu.Az reports, citing TASS, that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a briefing after a government meeting.
The Prime Minister noted that work has started on restoring railway sections in the directions of Gumri-Akhurik (Turkish border) and Yeraskh (Azerbaijani border): "We have already started the processes aimed at restoring these sections and are carrying out the work. We will continue working discussions with our Russian colleagues for other sections. Our position has not changed and will not change."
Nikol Pashinyan avoided giving a concrete answer to a question about whether these sections would be removed from the concession of the "South Caucasus Railway" company. He emphasized that the railways are the property of Armenia: "These are our railways, our property, and we must manage our property. I cannot provide details because we must resolve these issues through legal consultations and working discussions. SCR is involved in all these processes and is aware of what is happening."
