MP Sabina Salmanova stated to Oxu.Az that relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU) have entered a new phase of development.
Based on mutual trust and strategic interests, the cooperation now extends beyond economic and energy ties to include regional security, transport, green energy, and geopolitical partnership.
The visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen demonstrated Brussels' view of Azerbaijan as a reliable strategic partner. During the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, this status was particularly emphasized.
Salmanova noted that Azerbaijan is not only an important energy partner for the EU but also a key participant in the global logistics system due to its strategic location connecting Asia and Europe. Located at the crossroads of the East-West and North-South transport corridors, the country plays a crucial role in the development of the Middle Corridor.
In the energy sector, Azerbaijan increased gas exports to the EU by 65% since 2022. Cooperation in green energy is also expanding. Azerbaijan accounts for approximately 70% of the EU's total trade turnover with South Caucasus countries.
To support the peace process, the EU proposed a €20 million aid package for border areas. Azerbaijan acts as a guarantor of regional stability in the post-conflict period.
The MP emphasized that Azerbaijan's balanced foreign policy has strengthened ties with the US, China, the Turkic world, and the EU. Today, the country is a leading regional state and a reliable geopolitical actor.
