During the 2026 World Cup round of 16 match against Senegal, the Belgian national team debuted a surrealist-inspired away jersey, influenced by the works of René Magritte.
The light blue jersey was first introduced in a friendly against the USA in March 2026, where Belgium won 5-2.
The back of the jersey originally featured the phrase "Ceci n'est pas un maillot" ("This is not a jersey"), referencing Magritte's famous painting.
FIFA ruled the text violated commercial regulations and ordered its removal. To circumvent the ban, the manufacturer moved the text inside the collar, making it invisible to cameras and spectators.
René Magritte, known for his ironic works, created "The Treachery of Images" with the phrase "Ceci n'est pas une pipe."
