Crime registration and statistical reporting on criminal activity will now be handled exclusively by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
According to Oxu.Az, this change was formalized by a decision signed by Interior Minister, Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov.
Previously, both the MIA and the Military Prosecutor's Office performed these functions. The new decision revokes the Military Prosecutor's powers in this area.
The Ministry of Defense has been added to the list of registering bodies. The Ministry of Defense is now designated as the body that sends documents to the MIA's Main Operational and Statistical Information Department. Previously, this rule applied to the Ministries of Justice, Emergency Situations, and other relevant bodies.
Under the decision, pre-trial simplified proceedings materials are also included in the unified crime registration system. The separate statistical reporting mechanism for military crimes has been abolished.
Previously, crimes against military service committed by service members or with the participation of civilians, as well as crimes related to the activities of military units, enterprises, or organizations, were registered with the Military Prosecutor's Office. Statistical reports were prepared by the Military Prosecutor's Office and sent to the Prosecutor General's Office.
Additionally, the norm requiring cases involving crimes by service members to be sent to the Military Prosecutor's Office via the Prosecutor General's Office after indictment has been revoked.
