Serbia is willing to give up its veto power and the post of European Commissioner in order to become a full member of the European Union (EU).
According to Oxu.Az, this was stated by the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabić, at the "Globsec Forum" security conference in Prague.
"We are not joining the EU to create difficulties and obstacles. We don't need veto power. We don't want a commissioner either. Moreover, we hope that after our accession, the number of commissioners will decrease, which will increase the efficiency of the European administration," Brnabić said.
Currently, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Montenegro have candidate status for EU membership. Brussels is pressuring Belgrade to agree to grant this status to unrecognized Kosovo, which would essentially mean official recognition of its independence.
