The Swedish parliament has supported the government's proposal to abolish permanent residence permits for asylum seekers.
Oxu.Az reports citing TASS that this was stated in a press release from the legislature.
"The parliament voted in favor of the government's proposal to abolish permanent residence permits for persons in need of protection and settling in Sweden, as well as their relatives," the statement said.
It is explained that the aim of the measure is to reduce asylum-related migration, thereby creating better conditions for integration and reducing the level of social isolation.
The amendments to the legislation will enter into force on July 12, 2026. Instead of a permanent residence permit, a temporary residence permit will be issued. According to the current rule, temporary residence permits are only granted to persons in need of protection.
