May 28 marks the birthday of master kamancha player, People's Artist Habil Aliyev.
Habil Mustafa oglu Aliyev was born in 1927 in Uchgovag village, Agdash district. At age 7, he entered music school and developed a passion for kamancha.
In 1952, he moved to Baku to study at Asaf Zeynally Music School, learning mugham secrets from Gurban Pirimov and Khan Shushinsky.
He worked at the Philharmonic from 1953, accompanying artists like Seyid Shushinsky and Sara Gadimova.
He revitalized many mughams and gained fame for his virtuoso playing, touring worldwide.
Aliyev also composed over 15 popular songs. He passed away in 2015.
