On June 6, within the framework of the Azerbaijan Culture Days held in Turkmenistan, a scientific conference dedicated to the works of prominent Azerbaijani poet and educator Seyid Azim Shirvani (1835-1888) and renowned Turkmen poet Dovletmammed Azadi (1695-1760) was held in Arkadag.
Prior to the conference organized at the Dovletmammed Azadi City Library, participants toured the library.
The conference was moderated by Ilgar Fahmi, Secretary of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, Honored Cultural Worker, writer and playwright.
Deputy Minister of Culture Murad Huseynov, MP Hikmat Mammadov (member of the Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Friendship Group), Director of the Azerbaijan National Library Karim Tahirov (Honored Cultural Worker, Chairman of the Union of National Libraries of the Turkic World), and Turkmen literary scholars spoke about the life and work of both writers.
It was noted that Dovletmammed Azadi, who contributed to the development of classical Turkmen literature of the 18th century and enriched it with new content and ideas, gained fame as a herald of humanistic feelings in his approximately 40-year creative career. His son Magtymguly Pyragy gained great fame not only in Turkmenistan but throughout the Turkic world.
It was stated that Seyid Azim Shirvani, a powerful representative of the classical ghazal school, made significant contributions to the development of enlightenment thought in Azerbaijan in the 19th century. He also published biographies and samples of works by Azerbaijani poets in a book ("Tazkireh").
After the speeches, Azerbaijani and Turkmen readers recited poems by both poets.
Accompanied by the national mugham trio, mugham and tasnifs based on ghazals by S.A. Shirvani and D. Azadi were performed.
