A trial began in Paris on June 9 regarding the theft of rare editions of Alexander Pushkin and other Russian classics from European libraries.
According to Oxu.Az, this was reported by "Kommersant".
Seven individuals from Georgia are accused of organizing a series of thefts. They face up to ten years in prison.
Investigators believe the group committed thefts in 2022-2023 in libraries in France, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The total value of the missing books is estimated at 650,000 euros.
The trial aims to determine whether the thefts were ordered by antique dealers or part of a campaign to return cultural heritage to Russia. The latter claim has not been officially confirmed.
