Sleeping in front of a running fan may not pose a direct threat to healthy individuals, but it carries serious risks for some.
Russian cardiologist Sergey Vechtomov told Lenta.ru that prolonged direct exposure to cool air flow can lead to a number of problems.
Falling asleep with a fan on is especially not recommended for people with allergic rhinitis, chronic nasopharyngeal pathologies, chronic joint diseases, and those prone to muscle pain. The local cooling effect can exacerbate pain and cause muscle spasms, stiffness in the neck, shoulders, or back.
The doctor notes that a fan blowing directly on a person all night dries out the mucous membranes of the nose and throat, weakening the body's protective functions and increasing the risk of respiratory diseases.
