The Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK) held an event on "The Role of Trade Unions in the Protection of Human Rights" dedicated to June 18 - Human Rights Day.
The event was attended by representatives of state bodies and public organizations, lawyers, attorneys, mediators, staff of AHIK and its member organizations.
Opening the event, Deputy Chairman of AHIK Musa Mirzayev emphasized that ensuring human and civil rights and freedoms is the supreme goal of the state in Azerbaijan. He noted that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, consistent policies are being implemented towards building a legal state and reliable protection of human rights.
The importance of humanitarian and social projects initiated by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva in protecting human rights, strengthening social protection, and upholding humanistic values was highlighted.
It was noted that trade unions are important public institutions for ensuring decent work and human rights in labor relations. AHIK and its member organizations systematically work to protect workers' labor and socio-economic rights, provide legal assistance, promote collective agreements, ensure safe and healthy working conditions, and enhance legal awareness.
During the event, AHIK representatives and members of the Bar Association shared their views on the protection of human rights, the importance of trade unions in protecting labor rights, and legal education.
Legal challenges in the field of human rights protection and current issues of labor relations regulation were discussed. Participants emphasized the importance of developing cooperation between state bodies, civil society institutions, and social partners to further strengthen the protection of human rights, especially labor rights.
