The rector of Azerbaijan Medical University (ATU), professor Geray Geraybeyli, met with the delegation of Tashkent State Medical University (TSMU) from the Republic of Uzbekistan, who are on academic activity at ATU.
During the meeting, Geraybeyli spoke about the successful and dynamically developing high-level relations between the states and peoples, emphasizing that the friendship and brotherhood between the two countries, which share a common culture, are rooted in history.
The rector also highlighted the sincere meeting between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum in Baku, noting that this visit is a key indicator of close relations and gives further impetus to the comprehensive strengthening and deepening of cooperation between the countries.
Recalling the memorandum of understanding signed between ATU and TSMU, the rector emphasized the upward development of bilateral relations between higher education institutions of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, the wide opportunities for deepening cooperation in education, especially medical education, and noted that mutual visits and regular meetings contribute significantly to strengthening relations.
Shavkat Amonov, the head of the TSMU delegation, Honored Medical Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan, State Prize laureate in science and technology, professor, head of the Otorhinolaryngology Department, and director of the Happy Life clinic, stated that there is great interest in developing cooperation between the two countries and that the inter-university academic exchange program plays a special role. During the program, the guest highly appreciated the conditions created at ATU, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, and shared pleasant impressions of Azerbaijan.
The meeting also provided detailed information about lectures by Uzbek specialists for residents in otorhinolaryngology, inter-departmental approbation, practical classes, and participation in surgical operations.
It should be noted that the academic activity of the Uzbek delegation (associate professors Firuza Nurmukhamedova, Jamol Ergashev, assistants Maftuna Omonova, Zarina Egamberdiyeva, and TSMU first-year master's student Jasmin Turaeva) at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of ATU will continue until June 12, 2026.
