Residents of Shota Rustaveli Street in Shamkir city are complaining that the artesian well serving more than 50 homes has been out of service for nearly two months.
They told Baku TV that the well was shut down due to the installation of drinking water supply in the area. However, the provided water is expensive and of poor quality.
Resident Vilayat Guliyev says: "We can't water our trees or crops. 12 sot of land is burning from thirst."
The Regional Water Reclamation Service of ADSEA stated that in the settlements of Posanli, Garyagdy and Morul, there was no centralized water supply before, so sub-artesian wells were used. Now these areas receive water from the "Shamkirchay" Water Treatment Complex. To save electricity, the sub-artesian wells were temporarily halted.
The agency said that considering citizen appeals, the wells have been restored for six days a week, three hours a day. Although the wells are mainly intended for irrigation, some subscribers use them for drinking water and do not pay their debts. In summer, if difficulties arise, the wells will be reconnected to the network.
