During a period of deep political crisis in Azerbaijan, when chaos and confrontation threatened the country, national leader Heydar Aliyev returned to power at the people's request and pulled the country out of a difficult situation, laying the foundation for stability and state-building. Thus, June 15 was etched into Azerbaijani history as National Salvation Day.
In an interview with Oxu.Az, Eynulla Madatli, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS, said that Heydar Aliyev's return to Azerbaijan was no coincidence. He played a decisive and exceptional role.
During the transition period, the political leadership of Azerbaijan did not understand the role Heydar Aliyev would play. They were jealous and did not think about the fate of the people. As a result, Azerbaijan faced greater difficulties than other former Soviet republics.
After the January 1990 events in Moscow, Heydar Aliyev always wanted to return to Azerbaijan, but there were many obstacles. Although delayed, his return was of great significance. He protected Nakhchivan from Armenian occupation and later, at the insistent demand of the people, came to Baku to fulfill his rescue mission.
In a short time, Heydar Aliyev established full internal political stability, turning Azerbaijan into a stable, peaceful, and business-friendly destination in the eyes of foreign countries.
The main principles of his state philosophy include relying on the people, protecting national interests, and considering the interests of neighboring countries. He normalized relations with both Russia and Iran, and elevated ties with Turkey to the level of statehood.
Today, Azerbaijan's achievements are based on the political course set by Heydar Aliyev. Oil contracts, international forums, and events like COP demonstrate this.
Madatli emphasized that the most important lesson for future generations is patriotism. Heydar Aliyev always said: "Both I and my family are ready to sacrifice ourselves for Azerbaijan."
