The Iran Football Federation has accused the United States of creating artificial obstacles for the national team's flight to a match against Egypt in the third round of the 2026 World Cup group stage.
According to Oxu.Az, the federation issued a statement on its official website: "A few hours ago, the Iranian national team players arrived at the airport to travel to the match against Egypt. However, as in previous cases, the host US side created obstacles for Saeid Elahi and Mehdi Taremi, causing the team to be delayed at the airport."
The match between Iran and Egypt is scheduled for June 27 at Lumen Field in Seattle, with kick-off at 07:00 Baku time. On June 24, it was reported that the Iranian team would only be allowed to enter US territory two days before the match.
Iran drew 0-0 with Belgium in the second round and 2-2 with New Zealand in the first round of the group stage.
