Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Ali Cavadli won a gold medal at the U-17 European Championship held in Samokov, Bulgaria.
According to the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, on the third day of competition, Cavadli (45 kg) defeated Russian Umar Bogatyryov in the final with a score of 9:1, becoming European champion.
Huseyn Mustafazade (51 kg) beat Swiss Tristan Bernet (9:0) in the repechage and then defeated Georgian Davit Shavadze (9:1) early in the bronze medal match to take third place.
Elmir Cherkezov (60 kg) won against Austrian Lionel Winter (9:0) in the first repechage but lost 0:8 to Moldovan Vlad Duminica in the second.
Zohrab Safarov defeated Moldovan Vladislav Vasilevski 9:0 to claim a bronze medal.
Overall, the Azerbaijani team finished the championship with 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals, scoring 118 points and placing third in the team standings.
