Azerbaijani chess players have won two gold medals at the World Chess Championship in Montesilvano, Italy.
According to the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Zahra Allahverdi became champion among girls under 14. In the final round, she drew with Turkey's Tuana Abak and scored 9 points to win gold.
Another gold medal was won by Khagan Ahmad in the under-16 category. The young talent defeated FIDE representative Gleb Sheglov in the 11th round, finishing with 9.5 points to become world champion for the first time.
At the championship with over 750 participants from 83 countries, Azerbaijani chess players will stand on the highest podium twice, and the Azerbaijani national anthem will be played in their honor.
