France national team head coach Didier Deschamps has set a new absolute record for the number of wins in World Cup finals.
According to FIFA, the confident 3-0 victory over Sweden was his 17th such success. He surpassed Helmut Schön, who coached West Germany from 1964 to 1978.
Deschamps also has a chance to break Schön's record for matches coached (22 vs. 25). The 57-year-old has been in charge of France since 2012, winning World Cup gold and silver, as well as European Championship silver and bronze.
