Iran's national football team will participate in the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The International Football Federation (FIFA) has provided official guarantees to Iran regarding the full protection of players' rights.
According to Oxu.Az citing TASS, the announcement was made by Ismail Baqai, a representative of the Islamic Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Baqai stated that the decision was based on assessments by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Football Federation. He noted a productive meeting between FIFA high-ranking officials and Football Federation representatives in Turkey two days ago, where guarantees were given that FIFA would ensure the host country's compliance with regulations.
Earlier, on May 17, FIFA Secretary General Matthias Grafström confirmed a fruitful meeting in Turkey and stated that FIFA expects Iran to participate in the upcoming World Cup.
