Iran's national football team has officially asked FIFA to ban LGBT symbols and ceremonies during their 2026 World Cup qualifier match against Egypt.
According to Oxu.Az, the news was reported by 'RMC Sport'.
'The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran takes this matter very seriously and has conveyed its firm position to FIFA leadership. Iran and Egypt are two Muslim countries sharing deep cultural and religious ties. The views expressed by both federations reflect the common values and beliefs of their populations. Our principled position is that no ceremonies or promotional events related to this movement should be organized in the stadium,' quoted the source from Iran's team.
The match will take place next Saturday at Lumen Field in Seattle. Kick-off is scheduled for 07:00 Baku time.
