Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal will miss Spain's opening World Cup match due to injury.

According to The New York Times, citing sources, Spain will face Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta, USA. The 18-year-old may also miss the second group game against Saudi Arabia on June 21.

Yamal injured his left hamstring on April 22 during a match against Celta Vigo, where he scored the only goal from a penalty in the 40th minute.

Barcelona confirmed that the player will undergo conservative treatment and will be sidelined until the end of the season.

Yamal has made 25 appearances for Spain, scoring six goals. He debuted in 2023 and won Euro 2024 with the national team, also reaching the 2025 UEFA Nations League final.
