According to Opta, this statistic dates back to 1966. The record was set during the 2026 World Cup group stage match between Croatia and Ghana on June 28, which Croatia won 2-1.
Modric delivered the assist for Nikola Vlasic's winning goal at the age of 40 years and 291 days.
The veteran AC Milan midfielder is playing in his fifth World Cup tournament.
Croatia finished second in their group and will face Portugal in the Round of 32.
