Lionel Messi has taken the lead in the list of top scorers at the 2026 World Cup.

The Argentine star scored in the round of 16 against Cape Verde (3-2 after extra time), bringing his total to 7 goals. He overtook Kylian Mbappe, who scored a brace against Sweden (3-0) to reach 6 goals.

The 2026 World Cup is being held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament ends on July 19.
