Lionel Messi wins the 2026 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports, recognized for his football achievements, charity work, and UNICEF role.

Football legend Lionel Messi has won the prestigious Prince of Asturias Award for Sports in 2026.

The Prince of Asturias Foundation announced the news on its official website.

The Argentine star was recognized for his unique achievements on the field, his charity work through the Leo Messi Foundation, and his role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Messi's candidacy was proposed by David González Alonso, president of the Vetusta Universidad de Oviedo Triathlon Club. A total of 27 candidates from 12 countries competed.

The Prince of Asturias Award is an international prize established in Spain. The ceremony will take place in October.
