Croatia national team and AC Milan midfielder Luka Modric is preparing to end his playing career after the 2026 World Cup.
According to Oxu.Az citing Sport-express.net, insider Nicolo Schira reported the news.
The source says the 40-year-old footballer has reached an agreement with Real Madrid to take a club management position after retiring. His current contract with Milan runs until June 30 of this year.
Recall that Luka Modric played for Real Madrid from 2012 to 2025. During his time at the Madrid club, he won four La Liga titles and six Champions League trophies. In 2018, the midfielder was awarded the Ballon d'Or. Modric also won silver medals with his national team at the 2018 World Cup and the 2022/23 Nations League.
Croatia will play in Group L of the 2026 World Cup against England (June 17), Panama (June 24), and Ghana (June 28). The tournament will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
