In a historic first, a mother and son have both played in a FIFA World Cup. The feat occurred during the Iran vs New Zealand match in the group stage of the 2026 tournament.

Former New Zealand women's player Jenny Bindon represented her country in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups. Her son, Tyler Bindon, made his debut on June 16 against Iran, entering the match in the final minutes of a 2-2 draw.

The 2026 World Cup is being held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, running from June 11 to July 19.
