In the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Netherlands faced Morocco in a tense match.

Regular and extra time ended 1-1. Morocco won 3-2 on penalties.

The Netherlands became the first team in history to exit three consecutive World Cups without losing in regular or extra time.

Over the past 12 years, the Dutch have not lost a single World Cup match in regular or extra time. Their only defeats came on penalties: to Argentina in the 2014 semifinals and again in the 2022 quarterfinals.

Netherlands' last regular-time loss was in 2006 against Portugal (0-1).
