Portuguese midfielder Rafael Leao could miss several matches of the 2026 World Cup due to a suspension. The incident occurred during a friendly against Chile on June 7, where Leao was sent off after a fight with opponent Ivan Roman at the end of the first half.
Typically, a red card leads to a ban only in subsequent friendlies, but aggressive behavior may extend the punishment to official matches, including World Cup group stage games.
Portugal is set to face Colombia, Uzbekistan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the group stage. Leao's absence would be a significant blow to the team.
The World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
