Real Madrid has strengthened its squad for the upcoming season with two new defenders.
According to Oxu.Az, renowned sports journalist Fabrizio Romano announced the news on his "X" social media account.
The Spanish giants have signed Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate and Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries.
Konate will leave Liverpool as a free agent after his contract expires on June 30. The Frenchman has signed a contract with Real Madrid until 2030.
The 27-year-old Konate had been with Liverpool since 2021, making 183 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists. During his time at Anfield, he won the Premier League (2025), two League Cups (2022, 2024), the FA Cup (2022) and the Community Shield (2022). The defender also played for RB Leipzig in Germany and Sochaux in France. Internationally, he won a silver medal at the 2022 World Cup and a bronze at the 2024 European Championship with France.
Dumfries, 30, has been at Inter Milan since 2021. The Dutch defender won two Serie A titles (2024, 2026), three Coppa Italia (2022, 2023, 2026) and three Supercoppa Italiana (2021, 2022, 2024) with the Milan club. In 207 games for Inter, he scored 27 goals and provided 28 assists. He also reached two Champions League finals (2023, 2025) with Inter. Dumfries previously played for Sparta Rotterdam, Heerenveen and PSV in the Netherlands.
Real Madrid failed to win any trophies last season for the first time in five years. They finished second in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona. They were eliminated from the Copa del Rey in the round of 32 by Albacete (2-3), and from the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Bayern Munich (4-6 on aggregate). They also lost the Spanish Super Cup final to rivals Barcelona (2-3).
