The president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Yasser Al-Mishal, resigned after the national team's poor performance at the 2026 World Cup.
He announced this on his social media account. The Saudi team drew with Uruguay (1:1) and Cabo Verde (0:0), and lost to Spain 0:4, finishing last in the group.
Al-Mishal said: "We did our best, but the result did not meet our goals. I take full responsibility and apologize to everyone. I have decided not to continue my term. We will start the election process for a new board."
He had been leading the federation since 2019.
