Omar Abdulqadir Artan, a Somali referee denied entry to the US by American officials, will officiate the 2026 UEFA Super Cup match.
According to Oxu.Az, UEFA's press service announced the appointment.
The match between Champions League winner PSG and Europa League winner Aston Villa will take place on August 12 in Salzburg, Austria.
Artan had obtained a visa to visit the US last week but was denied entry upon arrival at Miami International Airport. US Customs and Border Protection said he underwent additional screening and was found not to meet entry requirements. No specific reason was given.
Somali nationals are subject to US entry restrictions, though exceptions exist for diplomats and those deemed in the national interest. The Somali government expressed regret over the incident, while fans and public figures voiced support for the referee.
