Turkey's national team has set a rare anti-record in World Cup history.

According to Oxu.Az, the Opta portal reported that Turkey lost 2-0 to Australia in the first round of the 2026 World Cup group stage, achieving a notable statistical feat.

Turkey became the first team since Uruguay's 3-0 victory over Sweden in 1974 to lose a World Cup match despite having 30 or more shots on target.

Additionally, Turkey made history as the first team since the 2006 World Cup quarterfinal between England and Portugal to have more than 30 shots without scoring a goal.

Turkey will face Paraguay on June 20 and the USA on June 26 in the group stage.
