Two members of Azerbaijan's U-15 freestyle wrestling team advanced to the finals at the European Championship in Samokov, Bulgaria.
On the first day of competition, finalists were determined in 7 weight categories in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Huseyn Amrahli (38 kg) defeated Armenian Gor Karapetyan (9:0) and Bulgarian Ivan Alexandrov (8:0) convincingly, then beat Russian Ervin Sufiyanov 3:1 in the semifinals. Huseyn will face Estonian Daniel Samuels in the final.
Khudayar Karimov (41 kg) eliminated Finnish Viliami Kotilainen (5:3) but could not continue his quarterfinal match against Bulgarian Ognian Burgazov due to an arm injury.
Pasha Aslan (44 kg) defeated Belarusian Matvey Utlik (9:0) and Serbian Adam Horvat (9:1) early, then beat Georgian Luka Saghinadze 5:3 in the semifinals. Pasha will wrestle Armenian Pasha Khudoyan in the final.
Punhan Shahmarov (48 kg) won against Hungarian Vencel Olas (11:3), Belarusian Nazar Krishnyov (5:3), and Turkish Mehmet Dedeoglu (6:0). He lost 1:10 to Russian Felix Tuayev in the semifinals and will compete for bronze tomorrow.
Rasul Ahmadli (52 kg) lost 1:2 to Turkish Muhammed Ozen in the round of 16.
Sadiq Valizade (57 kg) beat British Pol Hanlon (8:0) and Turkish Yusuf Sariyar (9:5) to reach the semifinals, but lost 2:13 to Russian Raybek Muchurayev just shy of the final.
Raul Mammadzade (62 kg) won against Bulgarian Grigor Simeonov (9:1) but lost 1:5 to Georgian Gabriel Tavberidze in the quarterfinals. Since his opponent reached the final, Raul will compete in the repechage tomorrow.
