Expected extreme heat in the United States this weekend could jeopardize events for the 250th anniversary of independence and World Cup football matches.
According to The Guardian, the France-Paraguay match scheduled for Saturday in Philadelphia may be delayed or canceled due to forecast anomalous temperatures. The Cape Verde-Argentina match in Miami will be held under high humidity and dangerous heat levels.
Professor Friederike Otto of Imperial College London stated: "When Independence Day celebrations are disrupted and World Cup matches take place in dangerous conditions, no additional scientific studies are needed to warn people: global climate change is already a reality and is impacting daily life." She emphasized that as humanity delays the transition to zero emissions, the situation will worsen.
