The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 2,645. According to the Ministry of Information and Communication, 12,666 people were injured and 15,050 left homeless.
The disaster completely destroyed 189 buildings and severely damaged 885 others. Rescue operations saved 6,462 individuals, while 20,909 received hospital treatment. A total of 86,117 affected families received aid, including 9,486 tons of food.
The earthquake, which occurred in the evening hours of June 24, consisted of two tremors measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, about 40 seconds apart. The epicenters were located 10 km apart in Yaracuy state.
