The United World Wrestling (UWW) and the Bahrain Wrestling Federation have officially announced that the 2026 World Championship will be moved from Manama to Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
According to Oxu.Az, this information was published on UWW's official website.
The event was originally planned to take place from October 24 to November 1, 2026, in Bahrain's capital. However, due to risks associated with the conflict in the Middle East, holding the tournament there was deemed impossible.
The war between the US and Israel on one side and Iran on the other began on February 28. Military operations have been halted since April 8, but both sides periodically note the possibility of the conflict restarting.
It is reported that the decision was made early to avoid problems in the final stages of preparation.
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan also applied to host the tournament, but Astana won by just one vote.
UWW added that additional information about dates and details will be announced later.
